The Tesla Model S is an electric car produced by the American company Tesla Motors. First shown to the public in 2009, it was introduced in the United States in 2012, and the following year in Europe. Its battery stores energy sufficient to drive for up to 400 km (248.5 mi). The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 5.4 seconds. It achieved outstanding result in crash tests, making it one of the safest cars in the world.

The battery charger accepts 120 or 240 volt sources, and the charge port is located in front of the left tail light.

The electric motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy which drives the rear wheels. Its special feature is its ability to generate energy when applying the brakes; it therefore functions as a generator that converts kinetic energy into electrical energy which is then stored in the battery.

Cars with an 85 kWh battery can travel 510 km (317 mi) when fully charged, assuming a constant speed of 89 km/h (55 mph).

The innovative design of the Tesla Model S has been acknowledged by both the scientific and automotive industries with numerous prestigious awards, including the 2013 World Green Car of the Year award.
